Pink eye knowledge

I know I haven't posted in a while. I got sick. I have a cold that started in my eye. Weird I know but my kids had the cold first and one night I rubbed my eyes because of my allergy to our dog and the next morning I had pink eye. Not the goopy bacterial pink eye just annoying viral pink eye. It's crazy until last year I didn't know there was different types of pink eye.
So the one that little kids catch the most is bacterial pink eye, conjunctivitis. All of my kids had it last year it was horrible. They had never had it before and it jumped from one kid to the next. It was awful. Dark pink or red eyes and the gooey snot and puss like discharge. Very painful very yucky. I don't have that.
I most likely have viral because of other symptoms I have. The lymph node in front of my right ear is swollen. (My right eye has the pink eye.) I have a sore throat and my kids have a small cold with cough. I don't have the thick white to green discharge of the bacterial infection I have very watery discharge. My eye won't stop crying.
The other pink eye I might have instead of viral would be allergic because it all started when I rubbed my eye after playing with my dog. The symptoms of allergic and viral are pretty similar. One thing they share is the watery eyes. Also they both can be itchy. I am not sure which one it is but there isn't much I can do about either. The only prescription for pink eye is for an antibiotic which is for the bacterial conjunctivitis.
Lol so I went to the doctors yesterday for a different reason. I mentioned to the nurse that I have pink eye but it wasn't the bacterial one. I have had that one before a lot as a child, I know how it feels and looks and I know this isn't that. I saw the doctor about the other reason I was there and at the end of the appointment he told me he noticed my pink eye and wrote me a prescription.
I checked the prescription later ( I didn't fill it) and it was the antibiotic. I got mad because he never examine it, just jumped to conclusions. Did you know taking antibiotics when you don't need them can cause them to become less effective. That's not good if you eventually will need them.
So if you or your child develops pink eye, do a little research before assuming the doctor will do his. If you go the doctors for pink eye make sure he or she actually examines the eye. Don't just trust they know better than you. I'm just encouraging that people know about the common illness, and ailments in case there is more than one lazy doctor out there.

Here is a helpful image I got from Kinsight, Inc.

Just protect yourself and family from taking medicine you don't need.

Also, I posted in my other blogs Writing and Art. A few days ago. If I don't post very much it because I'm sick or working on my art. Stay healthy.
